Our Intentions
This database is intended to be used as a tool for musicians and concert planners to be able to find music that includes the saxophone. So for instance, a flute player that wants to play duets with his/her saxophonist friend could use this database.
Limitations of this Database
While the interface to this database is now complete, the contents of this database are not quite so far along. However, we have done our best to ensure that the information we have is accurate, and will continue to do so in the future as the database grows. In other words, if we don't list it, don't assume it doesn't exist! For a more complete listing, we recommend A Comprehensive Guide to the Saxophone Repertoire 1844-2003 by Jean-Marie Londeix, which includes an excellent chamber music section.
A good definition of chamber music
"Chamber music is a form of classical music, written for a small group of instruments which traditionally could be accommodated in a palace chamber. Most broadly, it includes any "art music" that is performed by a small number of performers with one performer to a part. The word "chamber" signifies that the music can be performed in a small room, often with an intimate atmosphere. However, it usually does not include, by definition, solo instrument performances."
All of this was made possible by a generous grant from the Johns Hopkins CER(Center for Educational Resources).
